While the padel world focuses on Europe and the Middle East, a significant development is unfolding in Southeast Asia.
A League Is Born
Indonesia has launched its first professional padel competition — the Indonesia Padel League (IPL) — with 10 clubs selected from an initial pool of 17 applicants. The league will run for four months across 18 weeks of matches in five cities, marking a shift from casual play to structured competition.
The participating clubs include Exodia Jakarta, Onyx Padel Jakarta, Rossiade Padel Club Banten, AAS Padel Team from South Sulawesi, Aubrey Padel Indonesia from East Kalimantan, ASC Padel Jakarta, Belio Midnight Borneo Jakarta, Dewa United Padel Banten, Yasika Padel Club, and Black Steel Padel.
Beyond the Courts
The IPL is designed as more than a tournament. Organizers are building what they call “four pillars”: sport, business, club culture, and digital media. The goal is to develop fan engagement, business opportunities, and a sustainable club ecosystem around the competition.
Andri Paranoan, CEO of Padel Indonesia, was direct about the ambition: “We see an opportunity that must be captured — how padel can become an industry”.
Why Indonesia Matters
Indonesia represents a different kind of padel market. It’s not a mature European market focused on premiumisation, nor a post-boom correction zone. It’s an emerging market building its foundation — courts, clubs, and now a professional league — from the ground up.
Padel facilities are expanding not just in Jakarta, Bandung, and Surabaya, but in areas outside Java. Clubs and player communities are multiplying. The infrastructure is being laid.
For court builders and equipment suppliers, markets like Indonesia signal where demand will come from next. Not from replacing existing courts, but from building new ones — for the clubs, leagues, and players that didn’t exist five years ago.
